Sketches

Initial concepts

Visualizer

I used the visualizer as a live prototyping tool, experimenting with looks, finishes, fabrics and details. Design in motion.

Renderings

I had Claude drive Blender, and we worked together to see how it looked when properly lit and textured.

Four renders of the subwoofer in different grille cloths: sage, cream, rust and grey.

CAD

I built the 3D wireframes, including the DXF and STEP files, to give to the CNC shop.

Folded Plywood

The Face

The front edge is a 45-degree knife edge, and the face plate carries the same bevel. It holds the acoustic cloth on magnets, so it lifts off with your fingertips. Behind it, a stack of birch spacers gives the driver room to move.

The subwoofer with its face plate lifted off, showing the driver, next to the cloth-covered plate.

The Rear

The rear panel comes off for service. It closes on black-oxide screws into brass inserts, over a foam gasket. Tighten until it sits flush: flush is the torque spec.

Inside the rear opening: a black cleat with button-head screws and brass inserts along the birch edge.
